Berry Chocolate Protein Smoothie

Some of my favorite breakfast foods are hot and hearty like toasted egg sandwiches or oatmeal and oat bran.  When it’s warm and especially muggy like it was yesterday though, I tend to crave something cool and refreshing.  So I’ve been on somewhat of a smoothie kick lately, experimenting and trying different combinations.  And although many smoothies can be loaded with sugar and fat, if you use whole fruit instead of juice and add some protein, they can actually be quite satisfying and healthy.  This one, made with sweet berries, almond milk, and chocolate protein is really delicious.  I used half skim milk and half almond milk because Román doesn’t love almond milk, but feel free to use a whole cup of almond milk which will give it a nuttier taste and (added bonus) makes it dairy free.

Tip* If you’re a chocolate lover like me, use chocolate almond milk instead.  It will taste like you are biting right into a chocolate covered berry!
